Morgan Freeman, the Oscar-winning actor known for his distinctive voiceover work, has spoken out against the unauthorized use of AI-generated imitations of his voice.

On social media, Freeman expressed his gratitude to fans who have notified him about the scam, saying “Thank you to my incredible fans for your vigilance and support in calling out the unauthorized use of an A.I. voice imitating me. Your dedication helps authenticity and integrity remain paramount. Grateful.”

The issue came to light after a TikTok user, claiming to be Freeman’s niece, posted videos featuring narration from an AI-generated version of the actor’s voice. Freeman’s legitimate voice work includes narrating the film March of the Penguins and the Netflix series Life on Our Planet, as well as serving as the voice of CBS News.

Freeman’s criticism follows a similar incident involving Scarlett Johansson, who threatened legal action against OpenAI last month for allegedly copying and imitating her voice after she declined to license it to the company.

Johansson stated that she was “shocked, angered and in disbelief” when she heard the AI-generated voice, which sounded eerily similar to her own.
