Gmail’s Gemini AI sidebar and email summaries are rolling out now

Google is introducing new AI features called Gemini to enhance Gmail for paying users. These features will not only be available in Gmail but also in Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive for Google customers with specific add-ons or Google One AI Premium subscribers.

In Gmail, a Gemini side panel is being rolled out on the web, offering capabilities like summarizing email threads and composing new emails. Users can receive proactive prompts and ask open-ended questions leveraging Google’s advanced models. Additionally, Gemini will provide thread summaries in the Gmail mobile apps.

While these AI enhancements can be beneficial, users are advised to exercise caution and verify important emails before sending them, considering that AI tools may occasionally misinterpret information. Moreover, Google plans to introduce more AI features for Gmail, including “Contextual Smart Reply.”

Furthermore, Google is extending Gemini features to the side panel in other Google Workspace apps like Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, as previously announced during Google I/O.
