Gemini Live Will Support More Languages for Its AI Voice Chat
Google has announced significant expansions to its conversational AI voice chat service, Gemini Live. Initially launched exclusively in English, the service is now being extended to support multiple additional languages. Specifically, Gemini Live will soon be available in French, German, Portuguese, Hindi, and Spanish, with many more languages promised in the near future.
The tech giant anticipates that the newly added languages will be accessible to all users within “a couple of weeks.” Furthermore, Google plans to introduce support for over 40 languages in the coming months, although the exact timeline remains unclear. This rapid expansion from its initial launch alongside the Pixel series in August to its widespread availability for all Android users in just a month has been notable.
In addition to language support, Google is also enhancing the non-voice functionalities of Gemini Live. At its I/O event earlier this year, the company indicated that extensions for Google Calendar, Tasks, and Keep were forthcoming. These updates will enable Gemini to perform tasks such as importing numerous dates from a flyer into your calendar or creating a shopping list based on a recipe image. These features promise to be highly beneficial for users, although the rollout timeline is still described as “over the coming weeks.”
The integration of additional Google services into Gemini Live, including Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Calendar, Tasks, Reminders, Keep, and device control, aims to help users consolidate information from various Google apps and complete tasks more efficiently. These enhancements are part of Google’s ongoing efforts to make Gemini Live a more versatile and user-friendly AI assistant for users worldwide. The planned multimodal functions, such as live video analysis, also promise to enhance the interactive experience of using the service.
