Apple’s Phil Schiller is reportedly joining OpenAI’s board, as per information from Bloomberg. Schiller, who oversees the App Store, will assume a non-voting position on OpenAI’s nonprofit board, granting him the ability to participate in board meetings without voting rights or directorial responsibilities.

This move will provide Schiller with insights into the internal operations of OpenAI, especially as Apple prepares to integrate GPT into iOS and macOS later this year. This aims to enhance Siri with AI capabilities, enabling it to handle more complex queries through ChatGPT with user consent. While the collaboration currently does not involve financial transactions, Apple is anticipated to receive a share of ChatGPT subscriptions generated via its platforms in the future.

Microsoft had previously secured a similar non-voting observer position on OpenAI’s board, alongside Apple. This dual representation by tech giants could potentially complicate discussions involving both companies. It is noted that it is uncommon for Apple executives to hold board positions in companies they collaborate with.

Inquiries were made by The Verge to both OpenAI and Apple following the report by Bloomberg, awaiting their comments to provide further insights.
