5 Levels in AI by OpenAI: A Roadmap to Human-Level Problem Solving Capabilities.

OpenAI has recently introduced a five-level classification system to track its progress towards developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) that can surpass human performance. This framework aims to clarify the company’s goal for AI safety and future improvements.

The first level, known as “Conversational AI,” includes programs like ChatGPT that can converse intelligibly with people at a basic level. These chatbots can comprehend and react to human language, making them useful for activities such as basic information retrieval, customer support, and informal conversation.

The second tier, referred to as “Reasoners,” consists of AI systems that can answer simple problems as well as a doctorate-level educated human. OpenAI has showcased the GPT-4 model’s enhanced capabilities, demonstrating human-like reasoning abilities and suggesting a possible move to this second tier.

The third level, called “Agents,” includes AI systems that can act on behalf of people for extended periods of time. These agents significantly reduce the need for human involvement by being able to undertake tasks that require sustained effort and decision-making on their own.
